Germany's New Points-Based Immigration Pathway
Introduced in November 2023, the Chancenkarte is Germany's most accessible immigration pathway for skilled workers worldwide — no job offer, no employer sponsor required.
Points-Based System
No job offer required — score 6+ points based on age, qualifications, work experience, and language skills to qualify for the Chancenkarte.
18-Month Job Search Visa
Live legally in Germany for up to 18 months while actively searching for work. Meet employers, attend interviews, and build your network in person.
Part-Time Work Allowed
Work up to 20 hours per week in any field while on the Chancenkarte — earn income and cover living expenses while you search for your ideal full-time role.
Convert to Full Work Visa
Once you land a job matching your qualifications, convert your Chancenkarte directly to a full skilled-worker visa (Fachkräfteeinwanderung) without leaving Germany.
November 2023: Germany rewrote the rules of immigration
The Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz (FEG) reform introduced the Chancenkarte — allowing skilled workers from non-EU countries to enter Germany without a job offer, purely on a points-based assessment of their potential. Over 1 million positions go unfilled in Germany each year.

Your Chancenkarte Questions, Answered
Everything you've been wondering before taking the leap.
The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a new German visa introduced in November 2023 under the Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz reform. It allows skilled workers from non-EU countries to live in Germany for up to 18 months to search for a job — without needing a job offer first. Eligibility is determined by a points system covering age, qualifications, work experience, and language skills.
You need a minimum of 6 points to be eligible for the Chancenkarte. Points are awarded across 6 criteria: age (up to 2 pts), highest qualification (up to 3 pts), years of skilled work experience (up to 3 pts), German language level (up to 3 pts), English proficiency (1 pt), and any prior stay in Germany (1 pt). Use our interactive Points Calculator above to check your current score instantly.
No — this is the defining feature of the Chancenkarte. Unlike a standard work visa, you do NOT need an employer to sponsor you or have a signed job offer before applying. You simply need to meet the points threshold and show sufficient financial means to support yourself during the job search period.
Technically, A2 German is sufficient to meet the minimum threshold (combined with strong scores in other criteria). However, we strongly recommend aiming for B1 or B2 — each level earns more points and dramatically improves your chances of landing a job in Germany. Globio's language training takes you from A1 to B2, directly boosting your Chancenkarte score.
Yes — but with restrictions. You can work up to 20 hours per week in any job during your Chancenkarte period. This lets you earn income and cover living expenses while you search for a full-time role in your qualified field. Once you secure a suitable position, you convert to a full work visa (Fachkräfteeinwanderung) without leaving Germany.
Ausbildung is a 2–3 year vocational training program where you study and work simultaneously, earning a salary and a German qualification. The Chancenkarte is a short-term job search visa for people who already have qualifications and experience — you move to Germany first, then find employment. Ausbildung suits fresh graduates under 35; the Chancenkarte suits qualified professionals who want more freedom and flexibility.
The complete journey — from your first eligibility check to landing in Germany — takes approximately 3–6 months. This includes 1 month of document preparation and credential recognition, 2–4 months of visa processing, and optional German training only if you're below A2 level. Most qualified professionals with existing language skills move fastest. We handle every step so there are no surprises.
Key documents include: valid passport, degree/qualification certificate with certified German translation, credential evaluation report (anabin/ZEVA), proof of work experience (employment letters, references), German language test certificate (Goethe/TestDaF), proof of financial means (blocked account or equivalent), CV in German, and biometric photos. Globio helps you prepare and verify every single document.
